Emergence
It is an interesting thing for me to offer a musical perspective to the discussions on this podcast. The generall process in this project is for me to start by listening to the other contributors and then take of from there. This time it felt natural to me to start from Dvorak’s ”New World Symphony” since one of the other contributors told us that he lately had been haunted by this piece of music.

The thought behind my piece ”Emergence” is to use or recycle the beautiful things of the past as we engage in the constructive task of imagining and creating a new world ”post-corona”. So I sampled parts from the second movement, cut out pieces that felt especially relevant for us now, tweaked the material and played it backwards. I then started to improvise over the musical landscapes that by now felt both familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. It was like I found myself in a strange world turned upside down and was handed the task of creating a new possible world from the existing material.
